How to get from the Xingang Port to the Bullet train & ticke

Should we book tickets/transfers in advance? We will be arriving at the Xingang Port on the Diamond Princess cruisehip on Nov. 7, 2008. I would like to take the new Bullet train to Beijing, where we will be staying at the Marriott City Wall for 3 days. I understand it is a short taxi ride from the port to the train station, but I am not sure which train station to go to. Also, we will have alot of luggage. There will be 2 of us. Can we, or should we buy tickets to the Bullet Train in advance? The ship docs at 7:30 AM, so I do not know which train we would be able to catch. Should we book taxi or trasfers from the ship to the train station? Also, after taking the Bullet Train, will there be porters or persons to help us with luggage? Should we book a taxi in advance for the transfer from the Beijing Bullet train station to the hotel? What is the name of the station where the Bullet train arrives in Beijing from Xingang? Any help would be appreicated. We are leaving this Thurs for trip. Husband has a bad knee and we want to make this as simple as possible. Understand the Bullet Train is about 30 min ride as opposed to 3 hr cab ride from the port. Please send info on cost of tickets for Bullet Train, Schedule for Bullet Train, where to Buy Tickets for Bullet Train ( on line?)how to get to Bullet Train from port at Xingang - best way and whether we should book all in advance. Then best way to get from train station to Marriott City Wall. Thanks you so much.

Hi,

Here a couple of sites that helped me further (I will take the bullet train tomorrow):

For bullet train timetables:

http://www.chinahighlights.com/china-trains/

Bullet trains marked with Cxxxx

For Beijing metro network:

In general taxi works well, but you need to get the name of the place you are going written down or pronounced by a chinese person.

An alternative that has also worked well for me is to learn to say: straight, left, right - take a map and a taxi and direct them to where you want to go.

Works most places of the world.

Have a good trip!

No need to get tickets and transfers in advance.

Simply take a taxi from the cruise terminal to Tianjin train station (天津火车站) -- have the destination in Chinese characters for everyone%26#39;s benefit.

There%26#39;re C trains departing to Beijing South train station extremely frequently, so there won%26#39;t be a problem just getting a ticket for the next possible departure.

No porters or such to help with luggage.

No need for transfer from Beijing South train station (北京南站; it%26#39;s NOT Beijing Bullet train station), just head for the official underground taxi queue when you arrive. Almost everyone will be heading there and there%26#39;re signs so I don%26#39;t expect you%26#39;ll get lost. Taxis should go by meter.

Hi,

I hope you had a good trip to China.

I%26#39;m sending this as my husband and I will also be arriving at Tianjin port on a cruise ship and going sight-seeing in Beijing. As your trip was last autumn I%26#39;m wondering how you got on with your journey from the port to Tianjin station and to Beijing by fast train.

Luckily, we won%26#39;t have lugguage like you and just want to get to Beijing for a day trip and I can write names of destinations in Chinese characters.

H.L.

Once you get to the Tianjin Station it should be smooth - as explained above. Getting there should also not be too big an issue, the city seems very organized.

Thanks, Finn on the go. Your links are very usuful, too.

We have 2 days in Tianjin and decided to stay the night in Beijing to save time instead of coming back to cruise ship after the first day.

Have you tried courtyard hotels? They seem more traditional and interesting than 4-star hotels.

We%26#39;ll book a private tour to do the sight-seeing in Beijing. Do you have any advice on how to choose one? They all seem to have similar price and offer similar places to go.

HL

One thing I%26#39;ve done twice is to rent a bicycle for the touring... it was quite different in 2008 from what it was in 1999, but both times it was a lot of fun!

We are going on an Asian cruise and will be in port in Xingang for 2 days in April. We would also like to take the train round trip. How did your experience go? Did you get to take the bullett train? Also, did you do your own tour? Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have candid photos of Tianjin train station and the C trains (exterior, and inside the 2nd-class carriages). Email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com if you%26#39;re interested in seeing them -- put ';TripAdvisor'; and your own username in the subject line.

I%26#39;m leaving for my cruise tomorrow which stops (among several other ports) at Shanghai and Tianjin.

I%26#39;d like to thank ellyse for her invaluable advice and practical information she%26#39;s given me.

Her photos also have been helpful in making dicisions about my plan.
