Weather and Buying a Diamond Ring

Hi There,

We are going to Hong Kong on Sunday - can someone please tell me what the Weather is like.

Also I am looking at buying a diamond ring, is there good places and how do you know if they are real?

Thanks

You can check the weather out here:

I went diamond hunting for an anniversary present from my OH on my last trip and I found that the well known jewellery chains such as Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang, Luk Fook, 3D-Gold etc have the greatest choice and range. Another place for great designs is My Jewelry, which specialises in diamond and white gold jewellery in particular.

Depending on the size and quality of the diamond that you buy, it may or may not come with a certificate of authenticity, but if you need one, then most places can issue one for a small fee. Usually for stones less than 0.4 ct, they don%26#39;t bother.

Don%26#39;t think that just because you are in a big chain you can%26#39;t haggle. My tack is just to ask politely (once you have decided on the item you like) and they usually give me at least 10% off the marked prices without too much of a fight!

Have fun!

Weather and Buying a Diamond Ring

Hi maibubu2121,

we returned yesterday, weather was overcast and rainy last few days, but also humid even though top was 23.

We bought a wedding ring at Chow Sang Sang, they gave us a certificate of authentication with the receipt. I was introduced by a HK resident.

For us best place to change money was Chungking Mansions in Nathan rd in TST - there were around 6 money changers all together and giving good price $6 HK to 1 Australian dollar, no commission. HKSBank asked for $100 to change without an account.

%26gt;%26gt; they usually give me at least 10% off the marked prices without too much of a fight!

Because locals ask for, and get much higher discounts than that. So can anyone.

Just got back from HK yesterday. The weather was pleasant. We did experience some heavy rain for a couple of days. Temps were around 24-26degrees.

I was after bagette and heart shaped diamond solitare earrings. purchased from Henry at New Grand Jewellery %26amp; Watch Co. on 97B Nathan Rd. He will give you an authenticity certificate also Gary Cheung at Tokuyu shop LO65 G/F Inter-Continental Hotel, Shopping arcade, 18 Salisbury Rd Kowloon (New World Centre) Service at both places were friendly and jewellery was good. At Tokuyu they even weighed the diamond for me to show what the weight as they were to make the earrings up for me within 24hours.

Beware of some companies as they tried to sell us commercial diamonds. Do research on diamond colours and inclusions so you can ask these questions. The retailer then knows that you know what you are purchasing. If they won%26#39;t tell you what they are just walk out.

Hi Malibu, you are lucky because the weather turns out fine today. I think you are able to access internet (because it is very convenient in HK) so I write you this note.

Buy from the big shops is the advice. Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang, 3-D, Henry are reputable shops. They do not sell fakes. You can rest assured.

Hello,

If you want to learn what a diamond certificate is and how to obtain one you can check it out here:

Have a good one.

You%26#39;ll be tripping over jewellers - spoilt for choice. The markup on jewellery internationally is huge so discounting is rife. I got 50% on earrings without hardly asking.

Okay, I%26#39;ve had a cup of tea and now I%26#39;m awake, so here%26#39;s my lengthy take on jewellery. I%26#39;m not a great fan of bargaining in Hong Kong markets, because I%26#39;ve got better things to do with my time when I%26#39;m on holiday than argue over cents. However when someone is trying to sell me very expensive fripperies I%26#39;m much more open to it. As I said the markup on jewellery pretty much worldwide is huge. So no matter what, there is some room to move. I%26#39;ve bargained for jewellery in places where it isn%26#39;t considered particularly polite. I%26#39;ve bargained in Texas and California, and no doubt they probably wet themselves laughing after I left but I did manage to get something off. So no matter what people tell you about their favourite jewellers, (even my mother had one) the best thing to do probably is to look around. Go to a reputable shops and see what they have and see what they%26#39;re charging for it, and then, when you see something you really want, start bargaining seriously. It%26#39;s not as if there%26#39;s a shortage of reputable jewel was in Hong Kong. There%26#39;s just about one in every street. So if you like shopping for jewellery you%26#39;re in paradise.

Obviously still not quite awake. That jewellers, not jewel was.

only go to the repetable (however you spell it) jewellers

like chow sang sang, chow tai fook TSL (i %26#39;ve used TSL for last 8 years...same branch) 3d...

i find 3d more expensive for some reason

i bought my diamond and had it mounted on a ring... and got a good 18% knocked off the price

if its a sentientle ring your after then go to the top...chow sang sang...etc

if its just a cheap fancy ring your after (拢100-拢300)

then try my jewellers, ma belle, etc
