more upscale restaurants (esp hotel%26#39;s dim sum restaurants)tend to have this on their menu for dim sum in the desserts column

I can tell you, don%26#39;t bother with it. The normal plain egg tarts are best. Bird%26#39;s nest egg tart, unless you are paying top notch dollars like $ 80 an order... you are likely to get really bad birds%26#39; nest... like hard jelly pieces. Why bother?

Whenever we eat it (ordered by mistake) because we don%26#39;t know the restaurants%26#39; egg tarts have bird%26#39;s nest.... then what we all do at the table, we scoop out the bird%26#39;s nest and throw it on the side plate. It%26#39;s SO gross.

Just my opinion.

I agree with Katetam. The ';bird%26#39;s nest'; on the tart adds nothing to the taste and probably makes it worse. Stick to the traditional egg tarts. Tai Cheung (Lyndhurst Terrace) is one of the famous ones although many local bakeries have tarts just as good. Be sure to go when they are freshly baked in the early afternoon.

Skip the bird%26#39;s nest egg tart. Go to any local bakery and wait for the egg tarts when they come straight from the oven. Egg tarts have to be eaten hot straight from the oven and can%26#39;t be re-heated. Please don%26#39;t go to Tai Cheong in Central. The former governer of HK Mr. Patten made them famous. Why? He likes the extra butter taste which is traditionally not suppose to taste like butter. He%26#39;s British so he likes the taste of butter.
