Just a quick question to ask where is the best place to but DVD%26#39;s in HK? In particular martial arts movies and merchandise?

Thanks.

I like the HMV store at Central Building in Central, Pedder Street.

There are many local shops that you can go to besides HMV (which tends to have a good collection but a bit expensive). Widesight is a chain around the city and it has stores at Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and other places.

Benefit of HMV is they have a computerized inventory system. They can look up and hold specific titles for you from any branch. Their martial arts selection however is not huge.

HMV is generally good but I found it more expensive than home. Son found the martial arts section a bit sparse. SammyFloyd%26#39;s suggestion is good.

If your DVD player observes regional coding, you would not be able to play DVDs bought in HK. However, if you do a Google search on ';regional code'; plus the model number of your player, you will almost certainly find simple instructions to turn off regional coding.

- virtually ALL chinese language DVDs sold in HK are region free. There may be 20 tittles that are not, out of tens of thousands.

- Region free DVD players are widely available in the UK, where the OP came from.

You will find a good selection of Kung Fu movies at HK records at Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong.

HK records is probably your best bet because it is slightly cheaper than HMV and they have a greater selection of local stuff.

Local shops (independant sellers as opposed to chains) will sell re-issued Shaw and GH stuff for significantly less but may be region coded for China.

e.g. There is a guy on Queens Rd West in Sheung Wan that sells Shaw reissues (done by Celestial) for about HK $30 a disc. Plemnty similar shops that sell similar stuff.

Merchandise you can pick up from Avenue of Stars. JC has a shop there and the other ones sells BL stuff. There is also the Bruce Lee club at 530 Nathan Rd.

If you are a BL fan you may be interested in checking out this facebook group:

Zhan - are you talking about fake DVD%26#39;s or real ones??

Thanks for all your responses.

I do know about Region codes. I presume a Region 0 Blu Ray disc would work in a Region 2 Blu Ray player?

I wasn%26#39;t meaning fake DVD copies although I would probably look if I saw some.
