Time of Day

We%26#39;ll be arriving at 6:50 pm on next Tuesday. That%26#39;s 6:50 am our time in the states. We%26#39;ll be up and ready. So I%26#39;m wondering if we will be able to hang out and shop if we aren%26#39;t too tired. Being as though we will have slept on and off for 15 hours. If we can handle it, will shopping malls or shopping areas, grocery stores be open after 8:00 p.m. We want to get in as much as possible.

Time of Day

Hong Kong is more of an ';evening place';. All the malls, street markets, grocery stores, etc will be open after 8pm. Temple Street Night Market stays open until 11pm or later. Nathan Road will be busy with walkers, shoppers %26amp; diners way past 8pm.

Jet Lag wise, you are much better off staying up fairly late on your first night and getting a good nights sleep. Sleep in if you like the next day. There will be very little to do early the next morning as most stores %26amp; such don%26#39;t open until 10am or later.

Time of Day

Many shops stay open until 10pm except stores in the mall which usually close anywhere between 8pm to 10pm. You will have plenty of shops to browse. You can also walk around Tsim Sha Tsui promenade to enjoy the view or take Star Ferry. The last sailing is 11:30pm. Of course, the Temple St night market will be open.

To SammyFloyd, Thanks so much for all your thoughts and opionions. Where will the Star ferry take us and what will see.

From Tsim Sha Tsui%26#39;s Star Ferry pier, you can either go to Central (recommended) or Wan Chai North. These passenger ferries are not fast or fancy. However, the evening view is spectacular. Once you cross the harbor to Central, you can either walk to the proper center of Central (about 10 minutes) or go into the IFC Mall (5 minutes) and perhaps find a place for dinner. Most restaurants within IFC are upscale and expensive, but Simply Life offers relatively affordable food from pastries to full meals. It also has a good harbor view.

Which side of the harbour are you staying on? You could take a walk to see the laser-light show at 8pm. Best spot is probably Avenue of the Satra around TST - or from the Star ferry!

we will be staying at the Grand Hyatt. I guess I should have mentioned that initally. So now how should we start our evening.

If you are up for it, you can still go to TST via Star Ferry. There is a Wan Chai to TST route. The return from TST to Wan Chai shuts down at 10:50pm though so you%26#39;d need to take the subway back and walk a bit.

Alternatively, stick to HK Island. Consider viewing the Symphony of Lights show at 8pm (if you are at the hotel by that time) from Wan Chai North first. If you don%26#39;t mind a bit of a crowd, take a short cab ride to Causeway Bay and experience HK%26#39;s energy as people fill the streets after work for eating and shopping.
