Transportation

My wife and I are landing in Hong Kong at 7pm and we%26#39;re wondering the quickest, most cost effective way to get from the airport to Intercontinental Hong Kong. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Transportation

The quickest is probably a taxi assuming no traffic jam at that time, costs about US$30.

Most cost effective is airport bus, costs HK$33 or about US$4.50 per person, but need to walk for several hunderd feet.

There is also a train but need a taxi connection from station to hotel.

I guess taxi should be the way to go for you.

Transportation

Intercontinental is one of the few places at Tsim Sha Tsui that is not convenient to ride the airport bus. You have to get off across Salisbury Road, cross the street via underground tunnels, then come back up on a small hill or steps to reach the hotel. Assuming you have a little money to spend, taxi is the best way, followed by Airport Express connected by a taxi.

Thanks guys...Taxi it is!

I think taxi won%26#39;t serve the quickest route..

Airport express would take you to Kowloon station in 25min or so. There you can have the option to wait for free shuttle bus to your hotel (free by taking the train. See here http://www.mtr.com.hk/eng/airport_express/complom_free_bus.html) or you can take taxi to your hotel which wont take only around 10min.. depends on the traffic. For two of you the train costs HKD180 + the taxi around HKD30 that%26#39;s only... USD25-30? But I%26#39;m sure that%26#39;s the quickest way to get around. You can even get a tourist MTR ticket w/ few days of unlimited rides. See here

Quickest is all relative, you should be through the airport in less than an hour -- it took us 35 minutes to physically get off the plane and get to our transport. So even with a bus ride of 45 minutes or so it is not going to be a hugely long time. You can pre-book your transport at high through a travel agent and get a bus which will drop you off at your hotel. We have done this several times and it is quite convenient, the buses are rarely crowded and have seats better than most economy class airlines. They also give you a good view of Hong Kong on your way through the city, particularly if you are on the top deck. This would be just a few dollars more than catching the airport express or the A 21 bus. All in all, transport in Hong Kong is not expensive, a taxi would only be between $200 and $300 HK. If you can afford the Intercontinental, you could easily afford that surely.:-)

Pre-book at home goodness me why don%26#39;t I edit these things more carefully.

Taxi and Airport Express train would work out around the same, cost- and time-wise. The train is fast from station to station, but you will need to factor in the extra time getting out of the train to the taxi. And if you just missed one train it%26#39;s another 12 minutes wait, whereas taxis are always available at the airport. Anyways you%26#39;re talking a difference of within 10 minutes, so why not just get there directly in one taxi.
