Where to stay in Beijing - which part of the city

I wonder how important it is to choose the right part of the city when booking a hotel. Is Beijing a city where location of your hotel is vital, or is it easy to get to places (without to much time in a cab/bus/tube)?

What is f ex the most important differences between Hotel G and Holiday Inn Central Plaza regarding location?

Beijing is spread out, and so there are really no hotels close to everything. That said, the main things is that it is best to be within the third ring road.

Also, some hotels have a subway stop, shops and restaurants nearby, while others don%26#39;t. The reviews can be helpful in sorting this out.

Holiday Inn Central Plaza is not near any sites of major interest, but is a fine location.

IIRC Holiday Inn Central Plaza isn%26#39;t near any metro stop, nor any places of interest. If you%26#39;re the kind of person who wants to take taxis everywhere (bearing in mind Beijing%26#39;s horrible traffic jams) then I suppose not being near a metro stop would be ok.
