Hong Kong vs. Shenzhen

We arrive in HK in just one month. We will be also taking at least two day trips to Shenzhen. My granddaughter would like to have a tailor make her a prom gown. Would it be better to have it made in HK or Shenzhen? I realize that we will have to make another trip to Shenzhen to try the gown. She has a picture of the gown she would like made.

Hong Kong vs. Shenzhen

Note that a multiple entry visa would cost more money than a single entry.

Otherwise, I can%26#39;t comment on the workmanship of the gown. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

Hong Kong vs. Shenzhen

I have already obtained multiple entry visas as we also want to go to Guangzhou. We are US citizens.

I belive that having the gown made in Shenzhen at one of the tailors in Louhu will be cheaper and quicker than having it made in Hong Kong. I have never had a gown made in Louhu, but Ellen McNally%26#39;s book, ';Shop in Shanzhen'; recommends several tailors that specialize in Bridal %26amp; Evening Gowns:

3rd Floor # 3269

3rd Floor # 3009 A3

3rd Floor # 3182

4th Floor # 4307 A

There are also lots of tailor shops on the 5th Floor that show evening dresses in their windows - these look lovely, but I have not gone in the shops to check the workmanship. You will probably need to go 3 times - once to order, once for a fitting, %26amp; once to pick up the dress. Expect to pay 600 to 1500 RMB at one of the specialists.

Thank you for your imput. I am not so concerned about the workmanship, this is a high school prom and the gown will only be worn once. Heaven help the girl who would wear the same gown to another affair.

Multiple/Single entry visas cost the same for US passport holders.

well, you still don%26#39;t want the gown to fall apart the 1st time she wears it.

You are absolutely correct. What I meant was that I don%26#39;t need hand stitching or hand beading.

The biggest concentration of tailors and fabrics is on the 5th floor of LCC. I paid under 500 RMB for a silk %26amp; chiffon evening dress including fabric %26amp; tailoring. It did require 2 visits to get right but many HKG expats swear by Shenzhen. Perhaps you could make one visit on your way to Guangzhou %26amp; another on your way back. Not all tailors work so quickly.

It would be helpful if, after you return home, you let us know who you used, what the price was, %26amp; how they worked out. Thanks

Who was the tailor that you used to make your gown? Were you happy with the results?

I thought that since we had mulitple entry visas that we could go to Shenzhen in the evenings for any adjustments.

I will give a full report on our return as to the tailor and the cost ect.
