Shopping

Shanghai is known the shopping capital of China and it is the only place where I have time in our 3 week trip. Can somebody recommend stores selling stuff for the house, like silk wallpaper, curtains and such? Thank you.

Try having a look at this URL: spire.com/s-file/shanghai-shopping-silk-anti鈥?/a>

I%26#39;ve seen some curtain (and presumably other home decor stuff) places out at some light-spinning wholesale centre (sorry for the bad translation, in Chinese 鏇瑰畨璺交绾哄競鍦? out to the northwest of town. It%26#39;s about 30-40 RMB from where I used to stay in the French Concession, but I suspect you%26#39;d need to know Chinese to get things done.

Another place to try would be Yishan Lu (瀹滃北璺? near Shanghai Stadium and IKEA.

Great information as usual, ellyse. Thank you. Edith

No problem, you%26#39;re welcome. :)

A good place for curtains is the Cao An Rd Curtain Market (may be even the one referred to above?)

Light Textile Market (Qing Fang Shi Chang) in Shanghai. It is at 1618 Cao An Lu鏇瑰畨璺?1618 鍙?in Puto.

Bring measurements of your windows and an idea of what you want and they can make your curtains in a day or so and even deliver to your hotel.

For silk wallpaper I%26#39;ve heard that the Xin Yuan Ge Arts Centre is a good place. I think they have changed location:

Thank you, sndaily

There is a store with beautiful painted wallpaper in XinTianDi:

Probably on the expensive side!

sndaily: Yes, same place as the one I mentioned. :) It%26#39;s actually quite a huge collection of buildings selling anything remotely related to fabric etc, even clothes and shoes.

Thank you both. Do I need a car to get there?

To get to Qingfang Shichang, take the metro to CaoYang Lu stop, then take a taxi to 1618 Cao An Lu. It%26#39;s a straight shot about two miles west of the station.
