Visiting the Peninsula

Hi all

We will be in Hong Kong soon %26amp; would like to visit the Peninsula while there. Maybe for a drink or dinner.

Is it ok to just arrive there for a drink or do you have to be a resident? I understand we would need reservations for dinner. What kind of bars are there in the hotel with a view?

Also what kind of money would we be looking at to dine there? (2 of us)

Thanks a lot

Visiting the Peninsula

If you want the Peninsula afternoon tea, you should get there early or risk standing in line. The cost would be around %150 to $250 per head, depending on what you get. The review of the afternoon tea itself is mixed. Consensus is (and mine as well) that the environment isn%26#39;t that nice because of all the traffic at the lobby. Four Seasons over at Central gives you a better view and more comfortable environment.

Felix is the bar/restaurant near the top of the building that is well worth a drink (but skip the food as it%26#39;s really so-so) at night. The bar is nicely designed and you get a nice view of the city. Be sure to check out the views from the bathroom as well. Drinks only would be $100 per head for a drink.

Verandah is ok but not great. I%26#39;d go to Chesa, the Swiss restaurant instead. It has no view to speak of but it%26#39;s a nice, intimate restaurant with good food and service. Expect to pay about $500 per head plus wine.

Visiting the Peninsula

ong Kong Island gathers the area%26#39;s most popular pubs. bars and clubs. Much of Central%26#39;s fun nightlife revolves around Lan Kwai Fong. Bars in Kowloon are more practical than other%26#39;s, and the most popular one is Ed Kelley%26#39;s Last Stand which has its own band. Bars and restaurants in Wanchai and Causeway Bay attract people of different fields and the local people seem to prefer the popular atmosphere here

Here are some bars introduction:

Migod man that%26#39;s NED Kelly, don%26#39;t let any Aussies see this, you%26#39;ll be persona non grata.

I second Chesa, its really cosy and reminiscent of a hideaway in the Swiss alps! A bit more reasonably priced than Felix (which I also enjoyed but perhaps not quite worth the cost). You could have drinks at Felix before dinner (watch your shoes as they are funny about open sandals, flip flops etc) and there is also a new bar called Salon de Ning which is supposed to be nice, I think it is downstairs though.

Felix has a a view but its not great as the windows are quite small in the bar area (the whole bar area is quite small in fact). I think the best view is from the lobby bar at the Inter-continental across the road.

Other places to consider are the restaurants etc at One Peking Road - Aqua is nice for drinks and Hutong is a trendy Chinese restaurant with good views.

Cheers
