My ex-wife and I will be travelling to Beijing the first week in April. Excluding our travel days of arrival Monday, and departure Sunday, we have 5 days to experience the city. I%26#39;m going to leave the pallet blank, with the exception of the Great Wall %26amp; Olympic venues.
We will be there 3/30-4/5. Do we need winter coats, or will light jackets suffice?

Leave the pallet blank? I%26#39;m not sure I understand that phrase.
I think you might not need winter coats by then.
The usual major must-sees are Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace and Yonghegong Lamasery. For other suggestions, please be more specific about your own general sightseeing interests and preferences.

I guess I meant that I would like to see what the response would be without suggesting any places, to see if anything different is posted instead of, or in addition to, the regular sites.
hello,
I think it is unnecessary for you to take winter coats. Light jackets are enough.
Here is a valuable itinerary for you (without the arrival day and departure day):
Day 02 Beijing
Enjoy a full-day tour of the sights that make Beijing a spectacular destination: The Summer Palace, an oasis of tea gardens, pavilions, painted corridors, and shimmering Kunming Lake with Empress Dowager鈥檚 eccentric marble boat. And then have a visit of Temple of Heaven in the afternoon.
Day 03 Beijing
Today you will enjoy the sprawling Forbidden City, home to 24 Ming and Qing emperors and now a repository of precious art and antiques; Tiananmen Square, the largest man-made square in the world and the Temple of Heaven.
Day 04 Beijing - Chengde
Take train to Chengde. Check in the hotel. Round out your tour with stops at Imperial Summer Villa. Stay in Chengde.
Day 05 Chengde
You have a full-day visit of Temple of Universal Tranquillity, Temple of Universal Happiness and Temple of Potaraka Doctrine.
Day 06 Chengde - Beijing
Visit the Kinder Garden or farmer鈥檚 family after your breakfast. Go back to Beijing in the afternoon.
In that case, it would be helpful to indicate if you have any particular leanings to whatever kinds of sights or experiences.
lol, thanks Singapore, but we intend on staying in Beijing for the duration of our trip.
Ellyse, we definitely want to see the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Olympic venues, Night Market, Lama Temple, Art District, Back Lakes, and the Dirt Market. Sorry for making this more difficult than it had to be :)
Erm, I meant if you%26#39;re interested in museums, or just sitting in cafes watching the world go by, or out climbing some green mountain, etc.
Never mind. With nothing to go on... I would recommend Nanluogu Alley, and Capital Museum.
