Holiday within a holiday?

Hello all,

the other day me and my friend played the game throwing a dart at a map and going there.

Anyway, we booked a flight to Hong Kong and will be there for 16 nights and since I%26#39;m fro mthe UK and have never been this far east, thought exploring some more of the region would be a good idea.

Has anyone got any good ideas? I was thinking that it might be nice to do the city thing in HK then go to the other extreme of a tropical paradise type place?

There will be 3 of us going we%26#39;re all mid 20%26#39;s so would also like somewhere we can socialise at night (friendly not crazy!)

Anyone!? :D

Beaches in Philippines or Thailand.

Or, you could try ferry to Macau and then into China - visit Yangshuo for some relaxation. Maybe then catch a flight to Beijing and see the Great Wall, then train to Xi%26#39;an and see the Terracotta Warriors before back to Hong Kong.

Tropical Paradise: Many places in Thailand such as Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi...

Malaysia: Langkawi (more for honeymooners and couples though) but very beautiful.

Bali !!!!

However, honestly, if you have never been in this area, I think what would be really different, and memorable is for you to visit:

1) Hong Kong

2) Beijing /Shanghai

3) Hangzhou/Guilin

4) Tokyo

5) Taipei

Not tropical paradise, but definitely cultures/food/and sceneries you will have NEVER seen before.

Have fun planning!

I think I definetly will be checking out Macau while I%26#39;m there...Thailand has never really interested me, all i can think of when I think about the place is horrible western men walking hand in hand with girls that they have clearly paid for!

maybe im feeding the stereotype?!! I saw flights from HK to Cebu for 拢80 return, that looks pretty nice, I could even give diving a go! (go nuts!)

I think im gonna have to travel very light and check out as much as i can....!

then you DEFINITELY need to go to Thailand (you need a new perspective on what Thailand is)

by God, i%26#39;m excited! so far off! i%26#39;m going Germany next week and haven%26#39;t even thought about it becuase of this!

so would you say Thai over Phil? or do they both have their seperate charms?!

I like the idea of rainforests also...maybe even more than beaches!

Howdy.

Thailand and Philippines are both relatively cheap. Both have great beaches and great friendly people. Culturally buddhist Thailand have loads of beautiful temples while Catholic Philippines have loads of beautiful churches/cathedrals.

In Philippines have a look at Boracay (one of my favourite beaches and I%26#39;m a beach connoisseur) with good accommodation and good night life or Bohol (good beaches and the famous chocolate hills).

Thailand is also great, and with regards to the stereotypical view of Thailand with older men/younger women, you will also see this in Phils especially Cebu. BTW you can get a fast ferry from Cebu to Bohol (if you get to Cebu definitely worth checking out if you%26#39;re interested in checking out tropical rainforests).

Cheers Coco
