Shanghai - must see & do in 2.5 days!?

Hi

My partner %26amp; I will be in Shanghai for about 2 %26amp; a half days after a our china tour finishes. On the last day of this tour (in Shanghai) we will visit the bund, yu gardens %26amp; jade buddha temple. So for the remaining 2.5 days in Shanghai what should we see %26amp; do? We want to see/do as many must see/do things in Shanghai as possible! lol Is the Pearl tower revolving restaurant a must? I imagine it will be worth visting the bund %26amp; surrounding sites again? Also where is a relatively central location to stay?

Shanghai - must see %26amp; do in 2.5 days!?

what should we see %26amp; do?

former french concession ( recommend Huashan Road, Changle Road, Fuxing Road %26amp; Ruijin Road)

Xintiandi

Lujiazui financial zone

pay 1 day visit to ancient water town next to Shanghai

at night try acrobatics show or Chinese opera( if you like:)

Is the Pearl tower revolving restaurant a must?

NO.you could eat much better food %26amp; place with that price.

I imagine it will be worth visting the bund %26amp; surrounding sites again?

YES, esp the night sight of the bund %26amp; east nanjing road, try the riverside promenade right opposite the bund for a sunset, just sitting in any coffee bars on that promenade all walk around.

where is a relatively central location to stay?

People%26#39;s Square

';Must-see'; and ';must-do'; are subjective. What are your own basic sightseeing interests and preferences?

What time is your flight out on the last day? What days of the week will your 2.5 days be?

No, I wouldn%26#39;t say the revolving restaurant in Oriental Pearl TV Tower is a must.

For accommodation, I usually recommend the French Concession, or People%26#39;s Square/Nanjing Lu pedestrian street area. Make sure you%26#39;re within comfortable walking distance of a metro stop. For more specific recommendations, you%26#39;ll have to give more information about your dates of stay and price range.

we will be there in dec 26 till about noon dec 28 (flight leaves at 2pm).

in terms of price for accommodation we wouldnt like to spend more than $200-$230.

would it be possible for someone to provide us a rough proposed itinerary for the 26th %26amp;/or 27th? in terms of what we would actually be interestign in doing - pretty much anything! lol we however arent really into museums - more sightseeing %26amp; experiences.

thanks!

if we did the nearby water town, is it easy to get to %26amp; navigate ourselves or would we need to do a tour?

is the french concession area purely a sightseeing area or are there other things to see %26amp; do (eg. markets, etc.)?

also i have read a lot about markets -(whether it be souvenirs or fakes), where are these large markets situated? my brothers are keen on me bringing back some fake wallets or something branded for them. lol

is it easy to get to %26amp; navigate ourselves or would we need to do a tour?

yes,get a map of the water town from the service center when you arrive there. the easiest way is to take sightseeing bus to Xitang / Tongli but the time is tied, leave from Shanghai stadium at 9am or 9:15am then back from water town at 4:30pm.

is the french concession area purely a sightseeing area or are there other things to see %26amp; do (eg. markets, etc.)?

sightseeing area? itself is a sightseeing area. the close markets like electronics market %26amp; fake market. Good restaurants %26amp; Bars %26amp; night clubs area in located there either.

where are these large markets situated?

one is at the metro line 2 Shanghai Science %26amp; Technology museum station

the other is at 580, West Nanjing road

french concession area

~~~~~~~~~ it almost covers half of shanghai city, used to be. Not sightseeing place from my point of view. Most part of French concession are basically just some good neighborhoods, with nice street, bigger house, bigger garden compared to most western city since there is no property tax in china I guess. The shopping area in French concession is Huai-hai road and Jing-ling road (that street is quite interesting, 娉曞紡楠戞ゼ). All high level city employee like the Mayer used to stay in the west and south part of French concession, and the street near their house cannot be accessed by taxi. From my point of view, it is ok to live there, but definitely not much to SEE, there is no small market to sell cheap stuff, no street vendor, which foreign tourist might have interest in.
Unless you like the romantic street near Hen-Shan road, in Nov or Dec, those quite streets are covered with the drop leaves of London Planetree. Try, Yu-Qing road, my favorite when I studied at SJTU. Those are the only streets you will find at shanghai that can be classified as decent quite.
I%26#39;m so jealous! We were in Shanghai last spring for 2 days and although it%26#39;s not nearly enough time to do it all, we packed our itinerary solid.
Plan a lot of time in the Yuyuan Old City area, skip on Nanjing Road (it%26#39;s too westernized for my taste) and consider a side trip out to Suzhou for a tour of the gardens (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a canal boat ride and even a silk factory tour.
If you are anywhere near the Bund you%26#39;ll be plenty central. The roads are clogged with cars, but you%26#39;ll be thrilled by how affordable taxis are. We were able to get halfway across the city for around $4 USD including time waiting in traffic.
I just posted on my travel blog relating to Shanghai. Feel free to check out our photos and stories at:
Happy Travels!
Is that accommodation budget 200-230 USD between two of you? Please clarify.
Up to you about the water village, it%26#39;s doable but since it%26#39;s a weekend I think those would be rather crowded. Just be well-prepared for that.
Surrounding destinations like Suzhou and Hangzhou are reachable by train, but train tickets for the weekend can be tricky.
French Concession is more a residential, eating and sightseeing area. It%26#39;s not particularly touristy except in some parts.
Sat 26/12: shopping at Science %26amp; Technology Museum metro stop in Pudong - Shanghai World Financial Centre (go just before sunset) - 1-hour Whampoa River cruise - Bund-view dinner in Super Brand Mall restaurant
Sun 27/12: shopping at Taobao City (580 Nanjing Xilu) - Wujiang Lu snack street (if it%26#39;s still around!) - French Concession area - Chinese acrobat performance at Shanghai Circus World - Xintiandi nightlife
Mon 28/12: breakfast %26amp; check-out - Maglev ride - airport check-in 1200 - flight out 1400
